On the occasion of the annual Adobe Max convention in October 2023, the U.S.-based software developer released Lightroom Classic 13. As usual, this update contains a few interesting features that should make a lot of photographers’ lives easier. Let’s have a look at them in this article.
Lens Blur
This is without a doubt the most impressive novelty of the Lightroom Classic 13 update. Until a few years ago, I would have thought that simulating shallow depth of field would always remain a Photoshop prerogative. Until Lightroom 13, you had to use the rather complicated Lens Blur (Blur lens) filter or the more user-friendly but not very customizable Depth Blur Neural filter in Photoshop. An alternative was to resort to a specialised plugin, such as Luminar Neo, which can quickly get good results with its Portrait Bokeh AI tool. Now it can be done non-destructively in Lightroom itself, in this new Lens Blur panel.
