Our cover contributor for this month is Emily Endean, who brings us this month’s photo essay, which gives us a glimpse into a personal project that she’s been working on since the first lockdown of 2020. ‘People of the Ocean’ is a series of portraits of people who are united by a common passion: the sea. Through photographing swimmers, surfers, paddle-boarders and more, Emily has been able to rediscover her own love for the ocean as well as make important connections with like-minded people.
Take Kayo brings us his latest instalment of Take’s Corner, taking a look at the X-T5 and considering why it’s such an important camera in the Fujifilm X Series line-up.
Meanwhile, Marc Sadowski takes us behind the scenes of a fascinating shoot he was given the opportunity to do for the North American Wolf Foundation at Wolf Hollow in Massachusetts, getting up close and personal with these beautiful animals. Next up is Stefan Czurda, who gives us some insight into his love for the Fujifilm film simulations and shows us how he used his own tweaked recipe to document a recent trip to Ireland.
As usual, we also have our monthly ‘From the Feed’ feature, where we’re sharing four popular images from #myfujilove on Instagram, posted by Jose Carmona, Marek Svatoň, Mathieu Arnaudet and Kirill Sove. In our FujiLove interview for this month, Jay Ybarra chats to Stephanie Baxter about how buying some 35mm film cameras in a thrift store ignited his passion for photography, the comparison trap we sometimes find ourselves in as photographers and why capturing strong women is important to his work.
Kicking off a new series for us is Valérie Jardin. ‘Creative Vision Behind the Lens’ is a six-part series where Valérie will take us behind-the-scenes of some of her favourite photographs, giving us a look at her creative brain and sharing with us her creative process for taking each one.
We’re also thrilled to bring you our ‘Gear Talk’ section of FujiLove Magazine, starting with Rico Pfirstinger, who continuing his series all about camera settings that will show you how to best set up and make the most of your X cameras while avoiding common pitfalls along the way, this month concluding his walkthrough of the IMAGE QUALITY SETTING menu. Piet Van den Eynde, meanwhile, does a deep-dive into the Magic Brush tool in Capture One, as well as sharing his honest thoughts about the recent changes to Capture One’s pricing model. Next up is Bobbi Lane, who is taking a close look at the XF30mmF2.8 LM WR Macro lens, comparing it to the XF80mmF2.8 Macro as well as considering how it holds up as an all-round lens, not just for macro. Rounding off the January issue is Dylan Goldby with an interesting piece about the role gear plays in our photography and things he wished he’d known about gear when starting out.
